Making pottery is one of my passions. Clay almost always brings me joy – I can long for working on the wheel, and love to create elegant simple forms and shapes. I started working with clay as a child, building houses together with my grandfather who was a carpenter in New York during the 1920’s. My grandmother was very creative, added colours and texture. So my creativity and interest in construction stems from them.

Swoshpots’ products are handmade from stoneware or porcelain. My forms and shapes are simple, elegant, thin and unique. Some describe my style as minimalistic and influenced by Japan. The glazes are all mixed by hand and patterns and details are all hand painted. Ceramics is challenging, clay is very flexible but yet demanding. Clay challenges you every day, since there are so many steps that need to be taken care of meticulously.
Porcelain lanterns …
The snowy lanterns are made of very thin (1,5 mm) Limoges porcelain clay. Fit together with a technique similar to closing a scar. They are raw, or glazed depending on the desired expression I want them to have.
The Svalbard lanterns are slab built adding the pattern of the polar ice, fit tightly together with a wheel thrown base. A demanding process.
Finally they are all fired to 1255 Celsius. Making them transparent.
